Why students go
An Orthodox church in the centre of Pleven — full name Sveti Nikolay Mirlikiyski Chudotvorets, St. Nicholas the Wonderworker of Myra. Open daily 07:30–17:30, and about a 10-minute walk from the university.
Quieter than St. Paraskeva, which makes it a calm place to step into for a few minutes between lectures, whether or not you’re religious.
Good to know
- Dress modestly — covered shoulders and knees.
- Buying and lighting a candle at the entrance is the normal thing to do: upper stand for the living, lower for the departed.
- Services are in Bulgarian; visitors are welcome at any time the church is open.
