Why students go
A striking domed chapel on Vazrazhdane square, built as a mausoleum for the Russian and Romanian soldiers who died in the 1877 siege of Pleven. Their remains are kept in a crypt beneath it.
It’s ten minutes from the university, in the middle of the pedestrian area, and rated 4.9. Even if you only look at it from outside, it explains a lot about why this city is the way it is — the same story as the Panorama.
Good to know
- The opening hours are unusual and change by day: Tue–Wed 08:30–14:00, Thu–Sat 09:00–17:30, closed Sunday and Monday. Check before walking over.

- Dress respectfully — it’s a chapel as well as a monument.
