Why you’ll be here
Pleven sits on the main Sofia–Varna line, so trains run through all day in both directions. Sofia takes roughly 2.5–3 hours and costs around €7–12 — the cheapest and most relaxed way to reach the capital and its airport.
Good to know
- Buy tickets at the counter in the station, or online at bdz.bg (the site has an English version).
- The bus station is right next door, so you can compare train and bus times in one trip.
- Departure boards are in Cyrillic — Sofia is СОФИЯ, Varna is ВАРНА. See Bulgarian Basics for the alphabet crash course.
- Buy the day before for Friday evenings, holidays and the September arrival rush.
